My husband (he's an entrepreneur with a degree in copywriting) and I partnered with a friend and created a product to sell on Amazon. First, there is a lot to know about what types of products are worth trying to sell on Amazon. Then there is lots more to learn—from the trademark requirements to the types of assets that are effective on Amazon and the brand story needed, which is different from other marketplaces. An Amazon story also needs to be supported off of Amazon with different story elements to create a cohesive narrative, and therefore an effective sales funnel.

We created a fictional persona, a character story to guide our brand story, and help us make a distinctive product. This is an opportunity to try owning the whole process, from concept to reality and learn more about each of the required steps.

I designed two versions of a poker mat and packaging. For marketing purposes, I wrote a shot list for the photographer and the videographer, found those resources, then sourced the models and the space for the shoot. Of course we were doing this all at the lowest possible cost to test the idea.
